Spain Win Davis Cup Final

Fernando Verdasco defeated Jose Acasuso of Argentina to give Spain a hard-earned victory in the Davis Cup final. Verdasco took the first set, but Acasuso who replaced Juan Martin del Potro, rallied

to take the second and third set. Verdasco's win meant Spain won the tie 3-1, with David Nalbandian hping to take on Feliciano Lopez in the deciding rubber. The hosts were bidding for their first Davis Cup title after finishing runners-up in 1981 and 2006 but lost to Spain without an injured Nadal.

Venus Williams has won the WTA Tour Championships for the first time in her career with victory over Russia's Vera Zvonareva in the final at Doha on Sunday, winning 6-7, 6-0, 6-2 to claim her 39th

career title. Zvonareva, 24, came into the event as the lowest ranked player as ninth in the world but defeated Kuznetsova, Ivanovic and world number one Jankovic in the round-robin group matches before seeing off fellow Elena Dementieva in the semi-final.
