Ace

A serve where the receiver fails to return or touch the tennis ball

Ad-court

The left hand side of the court

Advantage

The point won by a player after Deuce and only needs one more point to win the game. If a player loses advantage it goes back to Deuce

All-court

A style of play which the comprises of all the different playing styles which comprises of baseline, transition and servey and volley styles

All-rounder

A player with the ability to play well both offensively and defensively

Alley

The area of the court between singles and doubles, also known as tramlines

Alternate

A player or tream that gains acceptance into the main draw of the tournament due to a player withdrawing

Approach Shot

The shot used as a setup as the player runs up to the net, often using underspin or topspin

ATP

Association of Tennis Professionals is the governing body of the men's professional tennis circuit

ATP Champions Race

The ATP points ranking system which starts at beginning of the year and the end of year mirrors the ATP entry system ranking.

Australian Formation

A formation used in doubles where the net player begins roughly at the center of the net, used to counter teams that prefer crosscourt
